The Stollery is a cause that's near and dear to my heart. With your support, we'll help kids from backyards across central and northern Alberta access some of the best physical and mental health care anywhere in the world – and have a ton of fun while we're doing it!

Emiley’s journey

Wednesday 20th Mar
In March of 2019 Emiley was having leg pain that was increasing in pain. She met with numerous doctors and had X-rays, blood work done but everything came back fine. Till we took her to the Stollery and met with a Dr Turner who did all the same tests as before but he knew something wasn’t right. He spoke to another doctor and they said let’s do a MRI. We showed up on the Saturday to do the MRI that took about 2 hours to complete. After we were told to go back to the ER and Dr Turner will come to speak with us. He came in and shut the curtain, shut the door and sat down, that’s when my heart sank, I knew it was something serious. He then explained that Emiley had liaisons throughout her left femur and her hip. He told us that we would be transferring to the oncology unit but they didn’t know what type of cancer she had. On April 5th she had undergone bone marrow aspiration and from that test it was determined she did indeed have cancer. She had Acute Myeloid leukaemia, she was then put on a high intensity chemotherapy. She fought a hard battle with AML and she passed away on July 29, 2019 at the age of 14.
